Let me first start off with telling you a bit about Nevada. Rob and I meet in Elko, Nevada. It’s considered to be a large town (by mining standards). Elko can be found in the northeastern part of the state at an elevation of 5080ft (1,548 m). Although it’s Nevada it’s not all sand! The northern part of the state gets lots of snow in the mountains during winter, but it is still very hot in the summer months. I moved to Elko in February 2005 for a job right after university as a Mine Engineer, as Elko is known for its large gold deposits. Rob had already lived in “the big city” for about 2 years before we met. A true Newfie met her husband to be at the bar, however, in this case Rob was one of the bar tenders! Even though I found my catch at a bar I was surprised to hear that bar tending was actually his social scene job. Rob worked for the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) as a Botanist (I’ll give you a second to stop laughing!). He spent his time doing natural spring surveys (who knew there was that much water in Nevada!). After dating for a short period of time during the summer Rob’s contract with the BLM was not going to be renewed and he was on the job hunt. His new job took him to the east coast to Connecticut. We stayed together and then I moved back to Canada – Timmins in Northern Ontario. Although we were now in the same time zone and the distance was lessened it all seemed a bit hard to manage, I called it off but we still remained friends. Life happened in separate countries, Rob moved back to Nevada but this time to Winnemucca to work in the Environmental Group for a mining company. Rob had invited me to accompany him to his best friend’s wedding and, more importantly, to see Ohio and Cedar Point’s roller coasters in all their glory. A little while after the Ohio trip Rob and I decided to give the relationship a chance by actually living in the same town for longer than 6 weeks! I got a job as an Underground Mine Engineer and moved back to the USA in February 2008. We have been living in Winnemucca (about 1.5 hours West of Elko) ever since and bought a house in 2009. Of course true to form Rob proposed at the Beaver Street Brewery (a step up from a bar) in Flagstaff, Arizona on April 23rd while on vacation to see the Grand Canyon and Sedona. The diamond is a Polar Bear diamond from the Northwest Territories in Canada (the polar bear is etched into the diamond on the girdle) – A Canadian diamond for a Canadian girl!

We chose to have the wedding in Cleveland, Ohio not only due to Rob’s family being close by but because it is about ½ way for the Canadian guests and the American guests. We have guests coming from East to West US and Canada. The colors of the wedding are stem green and dark brown. We think that having the wedding at the Wyndham in downtown Cleveland will make it easier for guests to see the city and all it has to offer, and more importantly already be at the venue where the wedding is taking place for convenience. We are anticipating to have an outdoor ceremony on the terrace at the hotel, but only weather will predict this for sure!

The reception will be in lovely Wyndham ballroom that has full length glass windows that look out over the theatre district with its twinkling lamp posts.

For most of the guests near by the easiest way is to drive. For my Canadian people in Cambridge and Ottawa (nearby) who chose to drive it should take about 4 to 8 hours to drive from either place to Cleveland. Most people will fly into Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and take a taxi – about $25 cab fare to the Wyndham. You can book a hotel room at a special rate if you call for the Friday (June 3rd) and Saturday (June 4th). Most important if you are traveling from Canada either driving or flying you will require a passport to enter the country!!!

We just hope you can make it to celebrate the day with us on June 4th. Rob and I foresee this day not as our wedding day but the best party ever that includes our close friends and family. Hope you can make it!! If you want to make a trip out of it here are some places to try out: Natural History/Children’s & Art Museums, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame/museum, take a tour of the USS Cod Submarine Memorial, Botanical Gardens, watch a Cleveland Indians Baseball Game, Zoo, West Side Market for lots of different foods, Great Lakes Science Center (great hands on exhibits), Steamship William G. Mather’s tour, Cleveland Institute of Music. Nearby in Sandusky there is Cedar Point amusement park, soak city Water Park, and Kalahari – the largest indoor water park in America – Super awesome!
